Lifespan of paving at the bottom area of doghouse may be shortened
by leakage of molten glass due to downward attack of metals. When laying ZA-RAM at the furnace bottom,
up to 1,000ºC, a dense monolithic lining of an aggregate of AZS and ZA-RAM powder is formed as a mortar
at the bottom refractories, which protects against metal attack and the leakage of molten glass. |

When paving over a new bottom, cement under the paving is 3 to 10mm thick. When laying SCIMOS
paving over a used bottom, the surface is to be leveled with a 10 to 13mm layer of SCIMOS S CEMENT having
a very stiff consistency.
The paving is to be laid fairly promptly after the cement begins to harden or dry out. If the paving is
laid after the cement has hardened, the possibility arises that open spaces may form under the paving into
which molten glass might penetrate to cause upward drilling wear.
The vertical joints of paving tiles can be buttered on the edges with a moderately thin cement so that
the tiles fit snugly together. The excess cement on top is then trimmed off with a trowel. |
